F.L.O.G.S - A Brief History
F.L.O.G.S was founded in 1989 by Richard Grout and Bob Hollingsbee during an evening at the Ferry Boat Inn. Whilst enjoying several pints of beer the two founders settled upon the name of FLOGS.
Bill Noyce, then landlord of the pub agreed to provide a trophy, the Ferry Boat Shield. The inaugural event was held at Felixstowe in the Autumn of 1989. The first winner was Tony Hollingsbee.
The society arranges four seasonal days throughout the year. The final annual event being the December day which is traditionally followed by a Christmas meal at the Ferry Boat Inn. Since Bob Holingsbee organized the first Christmas event back in1989 it has continued to be a popular day and evening with up to 70 members and partners attending the evening at it's peak.
During the following years the society was run in order by Ray Perry, Charlie Cooper and Graham Rowley, all of whom continued its success and its traditions. A short dormant spell followed until the society was rejuvenated by Dave Cooper in 1998 recruiting old and new players to take up the traditional challenge of the Ferry Boat Shield.
With Dave's departure for a new life in New Zealand imminent. Mark Palmer and Geoff Philpot jointly took over the running of the society in the Autumn of 2001.
